Next DC P2 Perth Data Centre – Stage 1
Property
- Optimised raft slab foundation to minimise excavation costs and potential water ingress issues. Raft foundation also precludes vibration and disturbance to gas mains and other vibration sensitive assets in the vicinity.
- Post tensioned floors to minimise sizes of load bearing structure, i.e. walls, columns and foundations.
- Jump form concrete core walls for speed of construction.
- 8 levels of suspended post tensioned concrete floors.
- Sheet piled basement wall with raft slab foundation.
The P2 Data Centre by NextDC is a state of the art, Tier IV certified data centre providing WA businesses with the security, connectivity and resilience they need for their data storage and cloud services to maintain relevance in the ever-changing digital economy.
With 17,900m² over nine floors and one basement, the internal structural design was heavily driven by data rack maximisation and services requirements. Pritchard Francis worked closely with the client, contractor and the consultant consortium to ensure that desirable outcomes were achieved.
The building had a very tight construction schedule and has higher than usual loads (superimposed and live loads) due to data floors, electrical and power generation and roof plant requirements. Efficiencies in the structure had to be realised to minimise costs and optimise the construction schedule. An optimised raft slab foundation was a great value solution compared to piles, and minimised excavation costs and ground water buoyancy issues. Even with an irregular shape, jump form cores enabled the superstructure around the Post Tensioned slabs to jump quickly out of the ground.
