Pritchard Francis was contracted to undertake the structural design and documentation for a new main parts distribution centre for Komatsu Australia.
The project consists of a large 14,000m2 warehouse including approximately 3,000m2 of suspended office space. To maximise internal space a large 21m x 24m column grid was economically engineered.
A deep-deck composite formwork system was utilised for the suspended concrete office slab and mezzanine. This minimised the carbon footprint of the structure through a reduction in concrete usage and resulted in a more efficient steelwork design.
Fibre-reinforced concrete was used for the flooring in order to save cost and construction time, varying slab thicknesses were used throughout the facility depending on the load configuration. A reception area and unloading docks also formed part of the design brief.
Pritchard Francis worked closely with the contractor on site when any issues arose in order to expedite their resolution and contribute to the project’s successful construction phase.
