The Orangutan Visitor Experience is an animal exhibit within the primates section of Perth Zoo.

Pritchard Francis was engaged to provide structural engineering consultancy services for the project, which involved the upgrade of an existing animal enclosure, including construction of a boardwalk, viewing bay, night quarters, nesting platforms and interpretive exhibit elements.

The boardwalk and viewing platforms contained unique play items which mimics the play towers in the orangutan exhibit. The boardwalk rises up to align the visitors with the orangutans to enable a more personal viewing experience.

Pritchard Francis’ detailing ability meant that the Architect’s design intent with the play equipment could be safely achieved and easily constructed.
