Geraldton District Police Complex
Property
The new public building faced a number of design and construction challenges: exposure to high winds, a severely corrosive environment just 200m from the coast and the need to cater for a post disaster function.
The building alongside the historic Geraldton Courthouse incorporates some 1,600m2 of two storey and 1,000m2 of single storey construction accommodating new offices and administration facilities, forensic laboratories, gymnasium, storage and armoury rooms, amenities and secure holding cells. Cladding is a combination of blockwork and steel stud framed walls with pre-painted aluminium roof sheets.
Pritchard Francis advised on the methodology of retaining a Heritage Listed wall adjoining the site of this Police facility. The wall is known as ‘Bennetts Wall’ and comprises brickwork from various eras.
