Geraldton District Police Complex

The new public building faced a number of design and construction challenges: exposure to high winds, a severely corrosive environment just 200m from the coast and the need to cater for a post disaster function.

The building alongside the historic Geraldton Courthouse incorporates some 1,600m² of two storey and 1,000m² of single storey construction accommodating new offices and administration facilities, forensic laboratories, gymnasium, storage and armoury rooms, amenities and secure holding cells. Cladding is a combination of blockwork and steel stud framed walls with pre-painted aluminium roof sheets.

Pritchard Francis advised on the methodology of retaining a Heritage Listed wall adjoining the site of this Police facility. The wall is known as ‘Bennetts Wall’ and comprises brickwork from various eras.
