Carlton Hill Road Bridge Assessments

Pritchard Francis was commissioned by the Shire of Wyndham East Kimberley to complete the assessment of two existing bridges on Carlton Hill Road in Kununurra. The existing bridges span the M1 irrigation channel and provide access to farms in the area.

The first stage of the assessment consisted of a Level 2 structural inspection in accordance with Main Roads WA standards. Pritchard Francis attended site in Kununurra to conduct this visual, non-destructive inspection of the existing bridges. The results of this inspection were then used to help determine the capacity of the bridges to support an upgraded road network.

Using the results of the Level 2 inspection as well as historical information that was able to be obtained, a load analysis was conducted on both bridges. This analysis was conducted using a variety of design vehicles specified by the Shire. The results of the load analysis and bridge inspections were then collated into a summary report to feed into the Shire’s business case for the upgrade or replacement of the bridges.
