Precinct 3, Port Hedland
Land Development
- Drainage swales throughout site.
- Protected by jute matting.
This project involved a large scale commercial development on a 70ha site adjacent to the Port Hedland International Airport. Pritchard Francis undertook the initial due diligence on the site and was thereafter also involved with the concept designs, detailed design and documentation and tender documentation.
Pritchard Francis provided the site supervision and contract administration services. The key issues relating to this project include the provision of services to a site relatively remote from existing infrastructure, flood modelling and the importing of substantial volumes of fill material.
Connection of the subdivision to Great Northern Highway was a complex component of these works, necessitating close liaison with Main Roads Western Australia (MRWA). The roadworks were required not only to integrate with the existing road, but also to comply with future planning for the adjacent areas of development. Pritchard Francis regularly met with MRWA and the local authority in Port Hedland, with several design options produced for consideration by the authorities. This approach ultimately ensured approval of an acceptable design.
